Our Story
Geiranger Brenneri started as an idea back in 2018 when CEO/Founder Aleksander met the gründer and founder of "Det Norske Brenneri" (meaning The Norwegian Distillery), Odd Johan Nelvik, at a convention at Stranda Stout & Porter festival. After sampling a few of the goods, Aleksander brought up the idea to make a "Geiranger-gin" using locally harvested raw materials. This idea peaked Odd's interest and the two kept in touch over the next few years, but as they both had busy lifes, the project was set on hold temporarily.
But during covid when everything shut down, the seed that was planted in 2018 started to grow into a flower. The idea of only a gin turned into a whole distillery, as part of the Grande Fjord Hotel's plan to expand the hotel building. The problem was just that there was no venues available in Geiranger yet, so they made an agreement with Det Norske Brenneri that until this was in place, they would distill and bottle the products in Grimstad in the meanwhile.
The distillery finally found its place on the ground floor of this new establishment at the hotel, and in 2024, the distillery could finally start producing destilates in Geiranger.
